Geelong Veterinary Hospital is a purpose built clinic set in Grovedale. We are situated only 10 minutes from the heart of Geelong, 5 minutes from Armstrong Creek and only 60 minutes from Melbourne. Our strengths here at the clinic are our experience, commitment to the highest standard of service and professional veterinary care. We have all the facilities and technical expertise to offer first class care for your pets.

We have been operating for approximately 30 years and are here to ensure your pets receive the best care possible.

The clinic offers treatment on all animals from horses, dogs and cats all the way through to cattle, sheep, goats and various farm animals.

Geelong Veterinary Hospital is a small friendly team made up of our practice manager, seven veterinarians, five veterinary nurses and our office receptionist. All of our staff are both very professional and knowledgeable and have many years of experience between them.

James Vanner

Veterinarian & Practice Owner (BVSc)

Dr James Vanner is our fantastic clinic owner and director and has been practicing veterinary for almost 30 years. James has extensive knowledge and experience in horse and small animal work, with a particular interest in surgery including orthopaedic surgery and reproductive work in both dogs and horses.

James also is a registered breeder for high quality German Shorthaired Pointers, suitable for hunting, showing or as family members.


Nicky Ganim

Practice Manager (Certificate IV in Bookkeeping)

Nicky is our wonderful practice manager who joined us in late 2019, and brings with her years of experience running a business. If you can’t find her making sure the clinic is running smoothly, she will most certainly be found cuddling all the cute animals we have in the clinic.

Although Nicky doesn’t come from a veterinary background, her passion for animals is obvious to anyone who meets her. Nicky comes from 15 years of experience in bookkeeping and is always up for a chat with our lovely clients. Outside of work, Nicky spends much of her time with her furry and feathered family including her four cats Simba, Claws, Monty, Tiger & Meika the quaker parrot.

Nicky is the sunshine in our clinic and an absolute asset to Geelong Veterinary Hospital.


Ashleigh Hicks

Veterinarian (BVSc (Hons))

Ashleigh graduated at the end of 2022, with honours from the University of Queensland. She is originally a local girl and joined us in January after moving her young family back to Geelong.  Before becoming a vet, Ashleigh was a research scientist so brings with her a wealth of surgical experience. Ashleigh has a passion for surgery, pathology, and exotics and is excited to get to know all of your furry, feathered, and scaly friends. She loves to give all your fur-babies lots of cuddles while they are here for their vet visits. 

In her down-time Ashleigh loves crafts, sewing, the beach, and spending time with her 2 dogs, 3 cats, and small human.


Heng Sheun Seto (Charles)

Veterinarian (DVM)

Charles was born and raised in Malaysia. He made the move to Melbourne at the age of 19 and made the first step of becoming a veterinarian. As part of completing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne, he joined us for three weeks of placement in 2022. He liked us so much he decided to join us a full time vet in 2023.  Charles has special interest in both surgery and cardiology. He loves getting to know all our patients and their owners.

Outside of work life, Charles enjoy surfing, badminton and reading novels in his own time. Other than English, Charles is also a Mandarin native speaker and Malay speaker.


Kuan-Lun Chen (Chris)

Veterinarian (DVM)

Dr Chris joined us early 2021. Chris was born and raised in Taiwan, and came to Australia to pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian. He graduated from the University of Melbourne with his doctorate in 2020. Chris has special passion in surgery and equine medicine and has already performed several complex surgeries such as gastropexy and liver tumour removal surgery.

Chris is available for small animal consults in clinic but is also consulting in farm / horse visits, examinations, geldings, joint issues, microchipping, vaccinations and minor surgeries.

Outside the clinic, Chris is dad to his two gorgeous rescue cats, Percy and Phoebus, he also enjoys playing musical instruments such as bass and guitar.

Tyler Baxter

Veterinary Nurse (Bachelor in Veterinary Technology)

Tyler completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at Massey University in New Zealand at the end of 2016. She made the move to Australia and joined Geelong Veterinary Hospital in late 2019.  She brings with her a vast knowledge of small and large animal nursing, specifically horses. Her passions include surgical nursing and anaesthesia, and she has a love for teaching Puppy Preschool. Tyler enjoys helping and educating clients who are bringing a new fur-member into the family. 

Outside of the clinic Tyler enjoys riding and competing horses in Show Jumping. She also loves the outdoors and travelling, spending her weekends out exploring what Australia has to offer. Tyler currently has no fur babies of her own here in Australia, but volunteers as a Cat Foster Carer for GAWS.

 


Marie-Claire Marks

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Marie-Claire is a Veterinary Nurse with a keen interest in pathology and horses. Marie-Claire initially started out as one of our fantastic work placement students in 2020. After completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, she joined the team. She is always sure to make both you and your furry family members feel welcome, and will go above and beyond to give you the best knowledge and advice. She loves to spend time with patients, making them feel calm and comfortable during their stay at Geelong Veterinary Hospital. 

Marie-Claire is a wonderful addition to our hospital and we love having her on board.


Gemma Bottrell

Veterinary Nurse (Cert IV In Veterinary Nursing)

Gemma started with Geelong Veterinary Hospital in February 2022. She completed her Animal Studies in 2019 and her Veterinary Nursing Cert IV in May 2022. Her favourite thing about being a nurse is cuddling and caring for all the patients that come through the door. She loves to make patients fell at ease while at the vet. She also has a passion for all things horse related and would love to further her career in equine nursing. 

When she is not at work, Gemma loves to spend all her time riding and competing on her horses. She has three dogs, Cleo, Theo and Lilly that also keep her busy!


Jayde Cooper

Veterinary Nurse

Jayde started with us in August 2022, while she is completing her placement hours for her Certificate of Veterinary Nursing. She immediately fit in to the team so well she was hired as our newest Vet Nurse, and she will be fully qualified in early 2023. Jayde has always had a passion for animals and loves working with clients and helping them care for their pet. Jayde always cares for her patients like her own animals, providing them the best care that she can. 

When Jayde is not at work, she is out enjoying nature with her husband, two daughters and her fur babies, Max and Tank.


Kate O'Neill

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Kate started with us at Geelong Veterinary Hospital in February 2023. She completed her Animal Studies at The Gordon in 2019 before completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2022. Kate has 4 years experience working closely with cats, specialising in neonatal kittens. Kate is dedicated to ensuring all of her patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their time here in clinic.

When Kate is not at work, she is out and about with her two dogs, fostering young kittens, or at the beach. 


Bek Laing

Receptionist

Bek is our clinic receptionist who will assist you upon entering the practice. Bek grew up in country Victoria surrounded by many pets, as well as caring for injured wildlife. She has over 18 Years experience in admin and is also a qualified Pathology Nurse/ Phlebotomist. Her love for animals extended to 5 years of volunteering at various animal shelters.

Outside the clinic, Bek is a busy wife and mother of two children and two fur babies cavoodles - Dodge and Jaxon. She enjoys spending time travelling, going to the beach and running her small fragrance business 

Her warm and engaging personality will ensure you leave our clinic feeling well looked.
